YMCA names new leader
The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas has named a new chairman of the board, and for the first time in the organization's 127-year history, the chairman will be a chairwoman.
Plano resident Gray Mayes, the director of public affairs for Texas Instruments, was named to the position last week. The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas is one of the top 20 corporate YMCA's in the United States with an annual budget of over $60 million, and 2,200 full- and part-time employees.
In her position at Texas Instruments, Mayes manages federal, state and local government policy and community relations. Prior to her time at Texas Instruments, she worked for 11 years on Capital Hill in both the House and Senate, and subsequently moved to Texas where she served as North Texas Director for Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Texas Association of Business; the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas; the Plano Chamber of Commerce; the President's Advisory Committee of Dallas Center for Performing Arts Foundation; the Volunteer Center of North Texas Dallas Council; and is Chairman of the Dallas Friday Group.
