Prosper watering restrictions eased beginning April 1

Published: Wednesday, April 11, 2012 10:46 PM CDT
Stage 3 still in place until October, watering now weekly

Staff reports

The March rains that have quenched the parched lake beds of Lake Lavon and Lake Chapman, the two major sources of water for the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD), have filled both to capacity. Those rainfalls, coupled with the successful water conservation efforts of area residents, have resulted in the removal of the more restrictive aspects of Stage 3 as of April 1, according to Town Manager Mike Land.

“Stage 3 remains in place until further notice. We are, however, no longer in the more restrictive Stage 3 Enhanced, meaning that we are now returning to the original Stage 3 weekly watering schedule,” he said.

That schedule dictates that between April 1 and either October 31 or as otherwise dictated:

Residential street addresses ending in odd numbers (1,3,5,7,9) may water on Fridays only;

Residential street addresses ending in even numbers (0,2,4,6,8) may water on Tuesdays only;

Schools, places of worship, parks, designated open spaces, medians, rights-of-way and other non-residential locations may water on Thursdays only;

Retail, business, industrial and commercial customers may water on Mondays only;

All watering is prohibited on weekends and everyday from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“The easing of the watering restrictions does not mean that there is now an unlimited amount of water available to us. We still have a goal set by the District of reducing our overall usage by 10 percent. Residents should be constantly reminded of the limited supplies we have. Lake Texoma is still offline because of the zebra mussels, representing 28 percent of the NTMWD’s water inventory,” he said.

Starting on Sunday, April 1 and remaining in place until Oct. 31, unless conditions change, the Stage 3 posture allows homeowners the convenience of setting their automatic irrigation systems to comply with the new scheduling. The previous schedule prevented many users from activating their automated timed systems.

Celina is under stage 1 voluntary water restriction which asks water users to voluntarily cut back on outdoor watering and other water usage. Celina gets its water from the Upper Trinity Regional Water District.
