C.A.R.E. celebrates 20th anniversary with annual auction
Getaways, sports tickets waiting for bids

The auction began in 2004 when a group of friends gathered for a Bible study and to watch the Super Bowl. A group of C.A.R.E. members were discussing how to raise more funds for C.A.R.E., the organization that raises funds for scholarships and projects that benefit Celina students. Someone pointed out the Celina Quarterback Club auction was successful in raising thousands of dollars for Celina sports programs.
It was decided to have an auction aimed at ladies' interests. The first auction raised more than $7,000 and proceeds from the annual event have been increasing ever since.
The auction is set for Saturday, March 31 in the Celina High School cafeteria from 9 a.m. to noon. Live auction items include a week at Santa Fe House for a group of eight. There is plenty of interesting shopping nearby and other activities. There will also be a San Diego Bay sailing experience for four and a beach spa getaway for two to St. Croix in the Virgin Islands.
Mavericks, Rangers and Dallas Cowboy tickets will also be auctioned off.
Silent auction items include various sports gear from Oklahoma, Nebraska and Texas. Get ready to bid on ice chests, pillows and pennants from your favorite university.
A large yoga gift basket is waiting for a winning bid. It includes a yoga mat and everything you need for complete relaxation. There will be gift baskets from students in each grade level in the elementary and middle schools. Each basket will have a different theme.
There will also be live entertainment and a tribute to Brenda Goodell who passed away earlier this year. She had been every instrumental in C.A.R.E. as well as serving on the school board and the Collin College board of trustees.
The brunch menu and the auctioneer are still to be announced.
The mission of C.A.R.E. is to inspire and reward academic achievement.
“It benefits every campus,” Kristy Campbell, publicity chair for C.A.R.E. said. “Some students might not be able to attend college without a C.A.R.E. scholarship.”
C.A.R.E.'s other projects include allocating funds to each campus to be used by teachers for incentives for students. The organization has purchased i Pads for middle school students for a reading program and calculators to be checked out at the library.

Tickets are $20 each. Call Pam Peters at 214-850-1244 to order tickets. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Groups and organizations are encouraged to enter eight-member teams.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. on March 31.
