Flower Mound SWAT commander arrested
By Chris Roark, croark@acnpapers.com
The Corinth Police Department confirmed that Flower Mound SWAT Commander Brandon Mitchell was arrested Friday on a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Lt. Jimmie Gregg of the Corinth PD said Mitchell, who is also a lieutenant in the patrol division, is accused of assaulting his girlfriend and displaying a loaded firearm March 10 at their home in Corinth.
"There was a third-party witness, and he was in fear of his life and the life of the girlfriend," Gregg said.
"Both of them were able to get out of the house safely," Gregg said.
Mitchell turned himself into authorities at Denton County Jail. He posted $15,000 bond and was released.
Mitchell's attorney, Brent Bowen, said he has not seen the warrant or any information leading to the arrest.
"We did turn him in on the warrant, but the Corinth Police Department did not tell us what it was for," Bowen said. "The department refused to give me information about the warrant."
Bowen added that he believes Mitchell is not guilty of what he is being accused of.
"I don't believe those incidents took place based on the conversation I had with [Mitchell's] girlfriend," Bowen said. "I talked with her, and she seems truthful. I don't think she was assaulted."
Gregg said the police department was in contact with Mitchell about the warrant, but he said he couldn't say if discussions took place about the specifics of the warrant since he wasn't part of the discussion.
Capt. Richard Brooks of the Flower Mound Police Department said FMPD is conducting an internal investigation and that Mitchell has been placed on leave.
Mitchell has been with the department for 12 years.

" I'm with you CMURRAY. Hard to believe a SWAT TEAM.
What I find really hard to believe is that they let this guy out on $15k bail and stating their doubts in the charges. No mention of him being relieved of his duties or being placed administrative leave. Looks as if he's still able to carry a weapon and threaten others.
Only in TEXAS "
