Zafari files for school board
By Conner Hammett, chammett@acnpapers.com
After nearly 10 years as an Allen resident, Rona Zafari has filed for Place 3 on the Allen ISD Board of Trustees.
"I want to contribute to the tradition of good education and smart stewardship of taxpayer dollars," the introductory paragraph of Zafari's website reads.
School funding and innovation in the classrooms are Zafari's two main concerns, she said, though she told the Allen American she is not yet ready to go into the details of her platform.
Zafari serves as secretary for the Collin County Lincoln Society, a local Republican club and serves on the board for Night of Superstars, a red-carpet charity for children with disabling conditions who have excelled in academics, athletics or community service.
"It's my interest to serve the community," she said. "I highly regard the Allen Independent School District. My kids had great educations and I'm definitely supportive of all of the things that my kids have learned."
Zafari has operated a Farmer's Insurance agency in Allen since 2005. Her son, Faisel, graduated from Allen High School last year. Her daughter, Farrah, attends Ereckson Middle School.
