Settlers Ridge to open 1st memory care center in county
By THAD JOSEPH, Staff writer
Settlers Ridge Care Center will be the first facility in Collin County to offer a program specifically for patients with Alzheimer’s and related dementia.
Administrator Lisa Marks said the center is striving to reach people who might be experiencing dementia-related problems.
“Our brand new Memory Lane Care Center will be a much-needed addition, not only for this facility, but for the entire area since this is the first memory care center in Collin County,” Marks said.
The Memory Lane center will follow the “I” care plan approach for patient care, which involves knowing a resident’s abilities, life story, and personal preferences, all crucial components in creating personal or tailor made care for each individual.
“By using the ‘I’ care plan philosophy, we are able to provide a safe and nurturing environment, including medication management, family style dining, development of the life story book and continue to manage specialized daily programs such as activities, exercises, cognitive stimulation and social interaction,” Marks said.
The center’s Calm Program employs sensory-based and proven techniques of sensory stimulation, aromatherapy massage and other therapies to help stimulate memory recall and allow the resident a better sense of being connected.
Settlers Ridge Care Center recently received My InnerView’s 2008 Excellence in Action Award. This is a national honor recognizing exemplary nursing homes’ quality care and service.
